Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

I'd like the installer to not replace existing data, instrument, or config files. sad

Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

It would be good to have also a "recovery" option. That means, if the strategy loose 1 position, the next one to be automatically double and eventual the 3 ed one till you recover all what you loose . A lot of payed EA-s has this option and I find it very useful.

This is a Martingale money management. I'll include it in next releases.
A problem will be the practical realization in FST. FST is stateless. It doesn't keep any info about old positions and account. It will not know in what step of doubling you are. The expert have to send this info every time FST has to open new position.

Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

I don't know if this is possible but I have an idea. If FST can "write and read" a txt file then FST will write into a txt file the actual Balance after every transaction (a)  and then to compare it with the previous one (b). If b<a then double the next order. it is clear that the algorithm is more complicated (for example c>b and c<a) but important is to get the idea.

big_smile  I'm novice, maybe I said a stupid thing....

Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

The balance can be changed from other strategy running on another chart. Or from manual trade.

Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

this is true. I personally use only one system per account.

- Add comment to sending orders of MT4 so that one can distinguish the using strategy according to the name of the file.

- Send daily or weekly or monthly to your email show the orders executed.

You can use: http://www.mt4i.com or http://www.myfxbook.com

Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

Food for thought - if we use "Filter bad OOS performance", then from that point OOS actually becomes in-sample data. Therefore to have valid out-of-sample data a third OOS should be implemented. Comments appreciated.

Aaaaa finally someone to notice that there is no such thing as OOS. Whether you prune the strategies manually or by using this option, the criteria is actually the balance pattern after the OOS date. Therefore, FSB chooses a strategy for the maximal OOS balance, but we accept only these that have good overall performance. Doing this we apply in sample testing as Footon said.

The same is with the progressive optimization and the future tests on demo accounts. The true is that we never know what the strategy will do after pressing Trade button on a real account.

Let's we generate good strategy at the end of 2010 using OOS at 2009. Let's start testing this strategy on a demo account till today August 26 and everything was OK . So we can start trading it on real enough confident that the strategy works. Is this strategy has better chance than another that we generated 3 minutes ago and shows the same performance? I think No. If we have known the second strategies back on 2010, and have tested it like the first, it for sure would show the same results.

OOS gives false filling of confidence. I removed the option from the first screen of Generator and it is switch off by default. However, using OOS is not wrong. It's the same.

The most interesting part is that professional traders cannot understand this but if I explain the matter to someone not related to forex, he understands at the moment.

OOS is not wrong. You can use it if you think it gives you a better chance.
You have to a;so use forward testing on a demo account. It is definitely useful. The purpose of this is to assure  that FST algorithm trades the  strategy at the same way we want.

And we come to the main purpose of FSB. You may generate a good strategy and to make money from it, but this is nothing. Other is important. FSB allows fast check of different theories and the results provokes questions. If you dig inside, you'll understand better the technical analysis and will open your mind. Exactly that understanding gives you a chance to gain some money from the forex. Not the generator.

I'm happy that Footon is on the right way. FSB works!!

Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

Can you please implement Hard (maybe stealth too) Stop Loss based on indicators?
i.e. SL = Parabolic SAR + or - xx pips (kind of trailing stop)

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

Today I am working on a strategy where I have set all of the entry parameters the way I want..... there are 5 of those.... and I am letting FSB show me some exits.....

This has been quite revealing...... Things I had never thought of as exits....

This is the first time I have locked all of the 'buy' parameters and let the program seek solutions for exit, I had always attempted to use a take profit and stoploss only.

Quite interesting what turns up from the generator...!!

Moving Average of Oscillator
Macd
Macd Histogram

Is it possible that the calibration of the level line in these indicators be revisited so that there is a finer adjustment.

When the line is at 0.0001, the indicator is already quite a bit over the zero line, whereas if the measurement was one decimal place greater, 0.00005  the level line could be tuned to show a lot more and therefore be more accurate.

Some strategies may want the level line to be just above the zero line.

Thanks for considering this.

I agree -- some of the indicators (like MACD) are in pips, at a few decimal places. These are hard to read and are small values. I'd prefer the indicator values be in pips so they would be regular number values, like 1 - 100 instead of .0001 to .01. It would break strategies though, users would have to modify their existing strategies for this type of change.

Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

As you can in the designer to make cashing cross orders?(BUY-SELL .at the same time)

Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

How about a feature where the influence of a fixed amount deposited/withdrawn every month on the equity curve? This probably affects those who trade with a % of their account more.

Full-time traders need to withdraw money sometime for expenses while those who trade part-time also deposit part of their monthly/annual pay into their trading account.

Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

Number of slots for Opening/Closing position is too small (8). Is it possible to increase it? Let's say ...to 15? Why this limitation exists?
Is it possible to hide some of indicators in the chart? Sometimes I use the same indicator twice or even more in a strategy so I don't want to triple it in the chart - one is enough.

The number of slots was increased a year or so ago to 8. If you want more slots, open the config file with an editor such as notepad and you can change the number to a higher amount.

The more slots you have open, the slower will be the operation.

You may also find that the more indicators being used in your strategy, the more difficult it becomes to  develop a strategy.

I can second that. I find the more indicators you use to determine your entry the less entries you will get. Also the more indicators you use the more curve fitted the equity curve becomes. Best to keep the number of slots small. I never use more than three. Keeping it simple is the key.

Re: FSB Wish List - Requested features

Hello,

There was a portable version of FSB.
- Is it available?

Thanks!
