Topic: Data

Hello, I like your program for backtesting although I am new to the logic and need more training.
Are trere any plans for video tutorials on FSB?, also I am looking for data for GBPJPY and AUDJPY.... where may I find the .csv data for backtesting, I have tried Dukascopy and the data is not recognized by FSB.

regards

Re: Data

Hello, bulegila
There are no video tutorials at the moment. I have plans to make it but not earlier than the next spring.

If your data are in a text format post a part of the data file here in the forum. I think will not be difficult to import the file in FSB.

Re: Data

I am not sure what you mean.
I do not have the file in .txt form, only I am looking for a reliable source for data for these pairs GBPJPY, AUDJPY I have tried the free data from Dukascopy for these pairs and FSB does not recognize it when the .csv file is placed in the data folder.

Thanks....

Re: Data

.csv is also a text format.
You can open it with Notepad. Try right click --> Open with.

The other way is to make a shortcut to the Notepad on the desktop. After that simply drag and drop your .csv fail over the Notepad shortcut.

Post the first 5-6 rows here.

If you have problems to do this e-mail me the data file.

Re: Data

Ok, Here is part of the .csv file....GBPJPY

Re: Data

Your file needs of several corrections:

# Convert the Date format from MM/DD/YYYY to YYYY-MM-DD
# Converts the Time from HH:MM:SS to HH:MM
# Moves the Volum from 3nd column to 7th column

I have made an AWK converter to you:

http://forexsb.com/downloads/awkconverter.exe

To convert your data:
- remove the first NODATA rows: { DATE;TIME;VOLUME;OPEN;CLOSE;MIN;MAX } from the data file.
- rename it to input.csv and put it into the awkconverter folder
- click on convert.bat
- the file will be converted to output.csv
- rename it to GBPJPY60.csv and  move it to FSB's Data folder

Re: Data

One more thing

FSB will mark this data: 219.98;219.98;219.98;219.98 like defective because of all the prices are equal.

It is better to remove these rows.

Re: Data

Thanks popov, although i am clueless as to code and programming i will try to do this...
Is there any source for data that is already converted for this pair?
Thanks for all the timely help...

Re: Data

If you can setup the metatrader platform you can save  the data in a format acceptable for FSB

Re: Data

I am using the IBFX Metatrader platform on occasion, how would i go about taking that data and using it on FSB?

Re: Data

I just started using strategy builder. How do I import the data from the web site into the strategy builder software.  I saved and extracted the data folder, but how do I add it existing data in the strategy builder software? what is sub folder ./Data?

Re: Data

The history data files are originally stored into the folder "Data". It is located at c:\Forex Strategy Builder\Data
You can reach it easily from the "Forex Strategy Builder" group in the windows start menu.

To update the data files simply extract the downloaded data file into the "Data" folder.

If you want you can make another folder for the history data files and to put the newer data in it. After that you have to point it from the "Market" menu -> "Data directory...".

One more thing: It is good practice to update all time frame from a given symbol at once. In the other case, if you update one period only and if you use the "Scanner" it will give you a warning message because the different updating time of the intrabar data.

If you have more questions, do not hesitate to ask smile

Re: Data

There are two problems with this data:
2008-12-23,19:30,134.053,134.067,134,134,NaN

1. The NaN must be replaced with 0.
2. There is no decimal separator here 134,134,NaN
In that case the program doesn't know if this is 134.134 or 134.00, 134.00 (, is a decimal separator in BG and RU). You can easily fix this by loading the data file in excel and increasing the numbers precision to xxx.000
