Topic: SpudFibonacci Strategie

Hi,
I generated the SpudFibonacci Strategie some weeks ago.
The strategy is designed for EURUSD H1.

I tested the strategy on my ActiveTrades-Demoaccount.

I compared the Demotrades on my ActiveAccount with the trades in the simmulation in FST.

http://www.myfxbook.com/members/tnickel/fst/351454

Somethink I don´t understand.

The strategy is designed for the H1-Timeframe. So in the simmulation the trades are opend and closed every full hour.
But in the metatrader-account the opening and closing time is not exactly every hour.

You can compare the trades in the FST-screenshoot and the screenshoot of my metatraderaccount.
The nettoprofit of the simulation in FST and the Metatrader is not the same.

Is this correct? or is here a bug ?

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

Seems fine. You see positions get opened at a certain price level, not on bar opening. Best way to compare FST trades with FSB trades on the very same data.

Be advised those Fibo indis are still in developing phase and not finished, you have to be very sure they work as expected before going live.

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

happy to find some people generate profitable strategies with fibo indicators

and sorry not being online  these days because we are in ramadan month its the fasting month here and all schedules are upside down

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

Hi,
I have done a second try.
I deleted the imported data in FST and reloaded the data.
(in the last try I have used 5digit configuration, 4 digits are correct)

So the data in FSD and Metatrader should be the same. I have checked this.
See pictures.

Data in FST

Data in Metatrader

The result in FST. The strategy is profitable you can see.

I checked the instrument configuration. The demoaccount is 4 Digit and where is a slippage of 0.
http://s11.postimage.org/xvyq13sxr/instrument.jpg

I changed the slippage to 2 and the strategy is not profitable.
http://s11.postimage.org/4w4bl4abj/slippage2.jpg

Is this a good or a bad strategy, can I make money with this strategy?
Is Slippage 2 realistic?
Or is a bug in the indicator ?

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

Slippage doesn't affect how the indi works, no bug there.

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

I have tried to use Your strategy but I have received message from FSB

"There is no indicator names: Spud Fibonnaci"

How to solve that Problem ?

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

Hi dlugi,
I found this indicator here in the forum.
This is only for testing. It is possible that is a bug in the indicator.
This can be the reason while the equity curve is so good.

You can test this on a demoaccount, and if the demoaccout is profitable at least 2 month,
you can post the result here.
I will do the same.

EDIT: attachment removed

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

i will try the indi in FSB
as well as fwd demo test

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

i loaded the indi and the strategy
i think there is some error in calculation making indi useless
- equity curve is too straight
- i changed close to nothing for opposite direction signal and nothing happen - results are the same

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

Hm.... the equtiy curve looks too good.
It is always the same. Most time if the equty curve is too good it is a bug :-(

I am not sure what is wrong with indi
it could be wrong setup of - use previous bar value

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

As I said it before this indi is a work in progress! The latter means this indi (SpudFibo project) has its own thread in Techn.Indi section, therefore I am asking Thomas to remove the indi from here and replace it with a correct pointer to that specific indi thread. There's no need in spreading a working version all over the place and then speculate about bugs or no bugs in different corners instead of carrying out testing and developing work in the specific thread.

You are more than welcome to give comments and feedback on those indis, when ramadan ends, I hope Ahmed will be back to have his say about it, because lets not forget he is the one who brought our attention to this indi.

And last request - when you think something is wrong, please examine it with great detail, take your time and think about it, exercise your gray cells big_smile Arguments like "the equtiy curve looks too good" arise suspicion, but don't help much. Cold hard arguments, ladies and gentlemen. smile

I agree with that and that's the reason for creating the indicators GitHub repository: https://github.com/PopovMP/Custom-Indicators. It'll be better to use the repository for storing and tracking changes of all custom indicators in one place.

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

Top tip - instead of focusing finding a bug in my indi, look at the closing conditions. Why so many? I've experienced highly profitable strats which turn out to be losers because of some closing condition, that means theoretically possible, but realistically hardly achieveable trades. Look if there are too many trades with very little profit, like a point or two, these trades might not pan out in live trading, yet FSB shows them as profitable and not even ambiguous.

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

Hi footon,
I removed all closing conditions without "bar closing" but the result was good too.

I think it is the slippage.
The strategy is profitable with Slippage <1.5 but in real we get a bigger Slippage.

I have checked my protokolls

For example:
Metatraderlog:
2012.07.16 02:00:03    MT4-FST Expert EURUSD,H1: ConsecutiveLosses = 0
2012.07.16 02:00:03    MT4-FST Expert EURUSD,H1: close #43836853 sell 1.00 EURUSD at 1.2251 at price 1.2248
2012.07.16 00:00:09    MT4-FST Expert EURUSD,H1: open #43836853 sell 1.00 EURUSD at 1.2251 ok

Logfile of the FST:
2012-07-16 00:00:09, EURUSD H1 An entry order sent: Sell 1 lot at 1,2251, Stop Loss 0, Take Profit 0
2012-07-16 00:00:09, EURUSD H1 Short 1 lot at 1,2251, Stop Loss 0,0000, Take Profit 0,0000, Profit -16,32 EUR
2012-07-16 02:00:02, EURUSD H1 An exit order sent: Close 1 lot at 1,2248
2012-07-16 02:00:03, EURUSD H1 Square

Is the Slippage=3 in this example? Or is this not the Slippage? In what protokoll can I see Slippage?

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

Thomas, you've got terms mixed up, slippage is zero (0) in your above example. Trades get executed at the same prices orders are sent! Slippage occurs if order price is 1.2220 but it gets executed by broker at 1.2225. Slippage is then 5.

More reading on slippage: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/sli … z22ZXSxLaI
                                          http://www.traderslog.com/slippage/

If you're on demo, you hardly get any slippage ever. Live trades will definitely have slippage. So, as always it will depend on your broker mostly what execution speeds and slippage you experience.

Re: SpudFibonacci Strategie

Ah,
thank you.
This is the reason why some trading algorithm run good on a demokonto and sometimes bad on
real konto.

Ok, if slippage is zero in the demoaccount. We have too look in other direction.

In more recent times I've been testing broker services and strats on mini and nano accounts, most of the time quite useful.
