Topic: Not sure which indicator i'm looking for

Right now i have a strategy i want to test but i'm not sure which indicators are the ones i want. The closest i could find was previous bar closing but that's wrong too. Thanks.

Strategy:

Open Long:
Previous bar is upwards

Exit:
At the first bar which closes with a short. And then immediately take a short position from there.

Try this one - http://forexsb.com/forum/post/10725/#p10725

Setup - period 1, base prices open and close, logic is higher/lower.

Re: Not sure which indicator i'm looking for

Re: Not sure which indicator i'm looking for

What i need is something that goes by only the previous bar. If it is long = buy, Short = sell.

Let's say that the overall trend is up, but there are one or two bars in the middle which are short bars. By my strategy, i would be closing my long position and opening a short position, then closing it and opening a long position when the next bar is long.

In short i'm assuming that (most of the time) when a bar closes as a long, the next bar will be a long too.

The crossover indicator you provided would simply ignore all that and keep the position until some other exit criteria is met.

Re: Not sure which indicator i'm looking for

Watisit......

When you say the bar is 'long', I am thinking you mean higher high and higher low..... is that correct.....?

I am asking for a precise definition as to what you mean for long and short....

I can see that you would not be able to use a moving average if you are changing from long to short within one or two bars, you may be looking for a price action bar pattern...

It should be easy enough to code the price bar pattern that you are looking for.

@footon:
Yes, that looks like what i'm looking for but i'm not seeing the same results on my side.

When you said base 1, that should be the fast MA. What about the slow MA?

@Blaiserboy:
Not quite, the indicator would give a Buy signal when the previous bar's closing is higher then its opening, and a sell signal when the previous bar's closing is lower then its opening.
