Topic: Long or Short with moving average

I am working on a strategy that uses a moving average of the high and moving average of the low. Basically you will only open long if the position is above the moving average of the high and go short below the moving average of the low.

It is possible to do these as a separate long and short strategies using the Long or Short indicator but does anyone have any idea how I can combine them into one strategy?

Re: Long or Short with moving average

I am not too sure about this... what about using logical groups.? and using the 'long or short' indicator

My 'secret' goal is to push EA Studio until I can net 3000 pips per day....

Re: Long or Short with moving average

I did try that but couldn't get my head around the logic. Here is the strategy so far:-

A friend of mine uses this strategy and swears by it. Results for longs look like they have some promise. It is called the Raghee Wave, just do an internet search and you will find all the details.

Re: Long or Short with moving average

I have traded with the 'Raghee Wave', interesting to see you trying to automate it.

I will see if I can make something worthwhile, I will let you know.

I notice that when I try to use 'long or short' the generator seems to work with the 'A' group only..... doesn't seem to be working with 'B', I will let it run overnight and see what results by morning.

BTW  there is a new version of FSB

My 'secret' goal is to push EA Studio until I can net 3000 pips per day....

Re: Long or Short with moving average

no luck...... I can not duplicate your results..

[Opening Logic Condition]
     Long or Short
     [ A ]   Open long positions only

What it happens when you allow short positions? Switch on Close Price on Balance chart to see if the market is not rising during the period.

Re: Long or Short with moving average

This chart is with short positions only. The problem is I need to change high to low in the moving average term so I only go short if the position is below the moving average of the low when going short.

Re: Long or Short with moving average

Hey Mick

That logic is nearly correct. The moving average of the low should have the condition "the bar opens above the moving average" as when it looks for a short it does the reverse.

The only problem is that when that is corrected it makes less profit! Longs only do very well as you can see from my equity chart. Normally I find that longs and shorts are relatively equal. In this case the shorts are diabolical that's why I am not sure that the logic is working correctly.

Thanks for the xml file, I will play with it a bit and see what I can come up with.

Cheers

Re: Long or Short with moving average

Hi SpiderMan,
Try this, I think its somewhere near what your asking for, Long above the high MA short below the low MA. Hope it helps.
I also have a second which has a centre MA and opens between the centre and top for Long and centre and bottom for short.

Re: Long or Short with moving average

I added a simple WTF filter of 1 day to identify the trend. Now works both long and short. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions.

Re: Long or Short with moving average

Wasn't sure if I should open a new topic but as this is relevant to this item I've placed it here.
I have modified the steady band to H L C MA and changed the margin setting to allow independant addition to the high and subtraction to the low so you can widen the bands.
As it has all filter options it looks very useful.
